چکیده

(1) Research Highlights: Applications of a species-specific baculovirus is promising method to control the gypsy moth and regulate its population dynamics in forest ecosystems. (2) Background Objectives: Cork oak protection against Lepidopteran defoliator Lymantria dispar requires an appropriate ecosystem management program, involving application eco-sustainable microbial products during outbreaks. The multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (LdMNPV), agent natural epizootics populations, represents option that was investigated multi-year field study, viral applications either from ground or by aerial treatment. (3) Materials Methods: Efficacy trials L. populations were conducted 2018 2019 Sardinia, according randomized block design. Each year, two conducted, applying commercial formulation with atomizer assessing effects different doses timing, respectively. An trial distributing LdMNPV at ultra-low volumes (2 L/ha) also assess virus efficacy larger scale. (4) Results: In both years, significant increase larval mortality detected plots treated higher occlusion body (OB) earlier targeting younger larvae, comparison untreated controls. Due observed retrogradation phase target pest 2019, no differences density between areas helicopter detected, but few weeks following application, meaningful vitality decrease samples observed. (5) Conclusions: Based on results this use programs can be worth consideration integrated program strategies modulate dynamics.

Economic implications of different cork oak forest management systems

The agro-silvopastoral system ‘montado’ is mostly dominated by Mediterranean evergreen oaks such as, cork oak (Quercus suber L.) and holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia). The ‘montado’ production system management aims the maintenance of a balanced sustainable land use to cope with the Mediterranean climate variability. One important issue in cork oak forests is the control shrub growth in order to ...

Post-Fire Management of Cork Oak Forests

Cork oak ( Quercus suber L.) forests are def ned here as the range of habitats from open savanna-like woodland formations to dense forests. According to the European forest type’s nomenclature (EEA 2007 ) these ecosystems are included in the ‘broadleaved evergreen forest’ class and in the ‘Mediterranean e vergreen oak forest’ type. This forest type is dominated by the e vergreen sclerophyllous ...

Forest Management Strategies to Minimize the Impact of the Gypsy Moth

Gypsy moth is an exotic insect from Europe and was introduced into the United States in the mid 1800s near Boston Massachusetts. The moth spread throughout the Northeast and remained there until the 1930s. The following years saw rapid migration throughout the mid-Atlantic regions. By the 1990s, the moth was found throughout the northeast, mid-Atlantic regions, Michigan, and currently inhabits ...

Interactions between an injected polydnavirus and per os baculovirus in gypsy moth larvae.

Larval gypsy moths, Lymantria dispar (Lepidoptera:Lymantriidae) were co-infected with the L. dispar nucleopolyhedrovirus (LdMNPV) and the Cotesia melanoscela (Hymenoptera:Braconidae) polydnavirus (CmeBV). CmeBV was given along with a parasitoid egg and calyx products in a stinging event, or in the form of an injection of calyx-derived extract. LdMNPV was delivered per os, integrated into artifi...

Adaptive Management on Sustainability of Cork Oak Woodlands

The cork oak woodland production systems result from the integration of conflicting activities in the same space creating the need of constant search of equilibrium between its components in order to achieve sustainability. In a climate change environment, associated with recent modifications in rural societies, adaptive management concepts are needed so as to maintain cork oak woodland systems...
